UPDATED 1/14/18 5:22 p.m. New details into the man arrested by Watsonville police, suspected of stabbing a man during an attempted carjacking at a Watsonville carwash.

The incident happened near ES Car Wash on Main Street Monday morning.

Watsonville police told KION the victim drove himself to a nearby hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Edward Murillo. Murillo was booked into the Santa Cruz County jail.

Watsonville Police say an hour before the stabbing, a family member of Murillo called them to report he was at home acting erratic and holding kitchen knives.

Officers when to the home but determined that Murillo had not committed a crime and was not endangering anyone. Family members left the home and agreed that officers should leave Murillo alone. Police say, at the time, there was no legal reason to contact Murillo inside of the home.

Police believe after the stabbing, Murillo went to his home on the 100 block of Terry loop and set a fire inside. The Watsonville Fire Department put the fire out.

Watsonville Police say the stabbing victim’s statement and description led them to believe Murillo was the suspect in the attempted carjacking. By then Murillo was not at his home.

Police later tracked him down by 1:30 p.m. and arrested him at a home near the corner of Salinas Raod and Associated Lane in Pajaro.
