The accident initially took out power for 2,259 customers that was narrowed down to 147 after some work from PG&E was done at Carmel and California Avenue where the incident occurred.

Once enough work was complete, Marina Police were able to escort a tow truck to move the suspect vehicle out of the area.

Witnesses told police the driver ran from the scene.

On Thursday, the driver called Marina police and provided a statement regarding his involvement. No charges have been filed against him.

Marina Police say it is an active investigation for now.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Over 100 homes are without power after a hit-and-run accident in Marina, according to Pacific Gas and Electric. A car reportedly hit a power pole on the corner of Carmel and California avenues and then left the scene.

PG&E says the pole broke, causing power lines to go down and break another nearby power pole. Originally 2,259 customers were without power, but as of last check PG&E says 147 customers are still in the dark.

Crews are on scene right now and expect to have power fully restored by 8 a.m.

Marina Police say they don’t have a suspect in custody but they have an idea who slammed into the pole with their car because the car was left at the scene.

Police waited until crews were able to clean up just enough for them to escort a tow truck company to where the suspect vehicle was located.
