Gilroy police determine school shooting threat not local
The Gilroy Police Department investigated a school shooting threat after receiving several calls from concerned parents.
According to police, someone posted photos of a rifle on Snapchat and made threats to possibly conduct a school shooting.
The violent social media post was uploaded Wednesday night.
“GPD Officers diligently investigated the threats, making contact with both Snapchat and AT&T Law Enforcement divisions. Through this process, it was determined the IP address used to post the messages originated from an address in Florida. GPD notified the local authorities in Florida so they could take the appropriate action,” said GPD.
Gilroy police determined the threat was not local.
“GPD takes any threat of school violence seriously and we encourage our community to report any suspicious social media posts or concerning behavior.”
