Big rig carrying apples overturns on Hwy 152
A big rig lost control, veering into the shoulder and plowing into the side of an embankment on State Route 152 and Pacheco Pass Wednesday.
The big rig was hauling a load of apples, that subsequently spilled onto the highway when the vehicle flipped over. Dash cam footage captured the accident.
KION showed some local truck drivers the video, and they say it was easily avoidable.
“That’s someone who’s going way to fast and not paying attention to his surroundings he should have not been doing that speed at that location,” truck driver Mike Taylor said.
It’s not just truck drivers too, Taylor said as he’s traveling around the country he sees drivers all the time who aren’t paying attention.
“They got to realize there’s lives at stake, Taylor said. “It’s a lot more serious when you’re driving something bigger, but they don’t realize that little car can make me wreck too.”
“They think the truck drivers drive slow you know?” truck driver Johnny Santos said. “They try to pass us and that’s really dangerous.”
When it’s raining or wet outside, truck drivers say they take extra precaution by making sure their wind shield wipers are in good shape and their tires have enough traction.
“Keep our distance,” truck driver Adrián Ramirez said. “Increase our distance way more than we usually do.”
CHP has still not determined the cause of the big rig accident on SR 152. No one was injured in the crash.
