Storm brings high surf to the Central Coast
The storm is bringing big waves to the Central Coast.
Will Juncosa has spent a lot of time kayaking in the bay and says when the big swells roll in, it is no place for beginners.
“Don’t do it, don’t do it. You know those waves, they are life threatening. They can pull you out and turn you around,” said Will Juncosa.
At SeaCliff State Beach there isn’t much of a beach, in combination to the higher tide and bigger waves, the ocean is taking up most of the sand and because of that, the beach isn’t the safest place.
Capitola resident Carolyn Moscatel has been living in the area for decades and knows what the waves can do.
“They come all the way up here, they take drift wood and knock part of this fencing out,” said Carolyn Moscatel.
That happened this year with camp sites right next to the beach at Seacliff, campers and RVs were pushed to higher ground today until the weather calms down.
“Last night they basically said for everyone to come and pick up their stuff and get ready to evacuate for the storm,” said Jim Viner, camper at Seacliff.
Whenever you have swells this big, the ocean becomes a lot more dangerous so there is a risk of rip currents, sneaker waves and large shore breaks.
