Man arrested for Labor Day homicide in Salinas
UPDATE: 11/28/2018 4:03 p.m. Salinas police arrested a man they believe is responsible for a Labor Day homicide.
37-year-old Daniel Martinez Jr. was shot in the 1200 block of Polk Street. Officers arrived and found Martinez on the floor, unconscious and not breathing. He died at the scene.
A dark colored sedan was seen leaving the area. Investigators determined 32-year-old Christopher Montoya shot and killed Martinez.
Montoya was booked into Monterey County Jail for murder.

9/7/2018 10:10 a.m. Salinas police have arrested two people for tampering with a crime scene and destroying evidence.
It happened at the scene of a homicide in the 1200 block of Polk Street on September 3.
When examining the scene, detectives and crime scene investigators found irregularities.
Their investigation led to the arrests of Ray Demetrio Espino and Maria Benavides.
They were booked into the Monterey County Jail for destruction of evidence, accessory to a felony, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
UPDATE: 9/6/2018 12:46 p.m. The Salinas Police Department is investigating a homicide that took place early Monday in the 1200 block of Polk Street.
SPD said at approximately 12:30 a.m. they received a call about a gunshot victim in the area.
Police located 37-year-old Daniel Martinez Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound. He died from his injuries at the scene.
A dark colored car was reportedly seen leaving the area.
Authorities believe the shooting was gang related but are looking at other motives.
The investigation is ongoing as police are attempting to look for suspects or anyone with information regarding this shooting.
