Dog dies in hit-and-run accident in Aptos
A dog was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Aptos.
According to the California Highway Patrol, 54-year-old Eric Brandenburg was driving his Dodge pickup truck on Spreckles Drive near Seacliff Drive when he veered towards a couple and their Border Collie named June.
The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 24.
“The pedestrians walking the dog were able to jump to safety,” said Officer Sam Courtney.
Brandenburg also hit a retaining wall and a passing Toyota 4Runner.
CHP said Brandenburg took off and was later identified from tips from the community and he ultimately turned himself in the following morning.
Brandenburg was driving on a suspended license.
The crash is still under investigation.
