Santa Cruz Co. Sheriff’s Office: Keep your gifts in your car’s trunk to deter thieves

A warning from the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office this holiday shopping season.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a couple nights ago, a deputy found Paul Vanhook in a car near Panther Beach. He had dozens of “shaved” car keys that can be used to get into many different makes and models.

Deputies took the keys as evidence.

Deputies are warning you to make sure you secure your gifts in the trunk and out of sight. This will help prevent you from becoming a victim of car theft.
