Highway 1 reopens following rock slide

UPDATE: Caltrans says Highway 1 has reopened following active rock slides.

It was a standard overnight closure they say is common after heavy rainfall.

————————————————————————————————————————–

Caltrans closed Highway 1 Wednesday night because of rocks falling on the roadway.

The Department of Highways reported an active slide at Willow Creek bridge, north of Gorda. Caltrans says Highway 1 will be closed from Ragged Point to just north of Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn throughout the night.

Caltrans will re-assess the situation in the morning and open the Highway as quickly as possible. The Big Sur Chamber says they normally run the rock plows through and open the highway, and they’re hoping it’s only a light rockfall with the first big storm of the season.
