EXCLUSIVE: Salinas family speaks out after losing everything in fire
A family lost everything when their home burned down on November 12.
At around 10:00 a.m. last Monday, a man and wife woke up to a loud crash.
“When I opened the door there was fire coming out of my kids room and there was fire coming out,” Osvaldo Moreno said. “I opened the door and I felt like a suction. I felt wind blowing behind me and all kinds of flames just came out.”
Osvaldo and his wife were able to escape by jumping out the bedroom window of their second story apartment. They were also able to save their dog, but two cats they were house-sitting did not make it out.
Moreno’s two kids were not home at the time of the fire. Moreno’s wife broke her foot leaping off the two story building and their dog suffered a burn on his neck.
“All my instruments, my recording equipment, my tattoo equipment, my kids memories, their toys everything. Gone,” Moreno said.
Over the last week, the family has gotten support from their close friends and family. A GoFundMe was started for the family and they’ve had clothes donated.
Among all the tragedy, the Moreno’s have managed to keep up their positivity.
“Knowing that I had it all and I lost it just like that,” Moreno said. “You just can’t take life for granted, because you never know what’s going to happen tomorrow. In our family, everyday is Thanksgiving. We give them thanks every single day.”
