Seaside hosts groundbreaking for new park
Located at the corner of San Pablo Avenue and Noche Buena Street, Cutino Park is getting a major renovation to make the facility more kid friendly. The city says the park will be unlike anything Seaside’s had before.
“We’re going to take this field that requires a little bit of love, and give it three million dollars worth of love,” Seaside city manager Craig Malin said.
The renovation will come with new fields, play-structures and a skate park. The city plans to use the new park to increase youth programs.
“This park means a lot to the community and the students here need resources to play soccer and play sports,” Seaside resident Alex Miller said.
Miller lives just a few blocks away from the park, and is excited for his three-year-old daughter to have a place to play.
“When she grows up, this is going to be a fundamental place for her to learn the soccer skills,” Miller said.
The new field will feature synthetic turf for multi-purpose use, replacing what is now dead natural grass.
The city says the renovation plans have been in the works for three years.
“Citizens start in parks. The making of citizens starts in sand boxes and parks,” Malin said.
Construction to the park will begin in December and the city expects the park to be open to the public in about eight months.
