Thousands of crabs wash up on Central Coast beach

Thousands of pelagic red crabs washed up on the shores of Lovers Point in Pacific Grove Wednesday morning.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium said the crabs tend to make appearances on the Central Coast around “El Niño” conditions. That’s when the water is unusually warm.

Some of the crabs have already died and not many will live, especially with seagulls feasting.

As the aquarium put it, it’s the circle of life!
