Fire badly damages family’s home in Bolsa Knolls area of Salinas

A north Salinas family is without a home after a fire badly damaged their house on Kelton Drive around 3 am Wednesday morning.

The Salinas Fire Department says they were able to put out the fire within an hour of responding to the call.

The owner of the home was able to escape along with his wife and daughter as well as any pets in the residence.

Crews are saying the fire started outside the home. The flames then managed to make their way into the garage where much of the damage occurred.

Overall Salinas Fire says about $50,000 worth of damage was caused to the personal belongings of the residents. The house suffered about $100,000 worth of damage.

Fire crews commented on how the fire was difficult to put out because of the amount of belongings located inside the garage at the time.

They also talked about the smoke alarms in the home, which were active but were unable to pick up any trace of smoke since the fire started outside the home.

The owner and his family would not speak on camera but say they’ll be fine and do have a place to stay for now.

The Salinas Fire Department isn’t aware of what caused the fire and neither is the homeowner.

For now the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
