Driver dies on roadway following four car crash on Hwy 17

A 49-year-old man was killed Sunday morning when he got out of his car following a four car crash on Highway 17 and was hit by a passing vehicle.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident happened just south of Highway 9 in Los Gatos around 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

A blue truck lost control on southbound 17 and crashed into the center divide, sending debris onto the roadway.

The victim in a Honda Accord approached the initial crash and collided with debris. The driver got out of his car and was struck by another Honda Accord. The driver died at the scene and has not been identified.

A fourth vehicle, a Chevy van crashed into the truck.

The driver of the blue truck left the scene before officers arrived.

The crash is under investigation but CHP believes drugs or alcohol were involved.
