Suspected arsonist arrested for Vapor Cleaners fire in Santa Cruz
A man accused of starting a fire at a dry cleaning business in Santa Cruz is behind bars.
According to police, 31-year-old transient Laurentino Lopez-Gomez is responsible for the fire intentionally set at Vapor Cleaners on Water Street. The fire was called in around 12:13 p.m. on Nov. 1.
Detectives recovered video surveillance from several nearby locations.
On Sunday, Nov. 4, a Santa Cruz Ranger spotted Gomez sitting in the area along the block of River Street.
Officers took Gomez into custody. SCPD said during an interview Gomez made incriminating statements and was booked for the arson.
