No on Prop 6 calls free gas a “political stunt”

Monday morning at 13 gas stations around California, volunteers for the Yes on Prop 6 campaign gave out free tanks of gas in a final election rally event.

Yes on 6 announced they will give up to 1,000 free tanks of gas where drivers can register for a drawing where one in every 50 people registered receive a $50 gas card.

No on 6 responded with a strong statement saying, what Yes on 6 is doing is illegal.

“It is illegal to offer anything of value for a pledge to vote, and our campaign will be taking legal action to address this desperate stunt,” Spokesperson for No on Prop 6 Robin Swanson said.

Yes on 6 says, they’re in no way breaking the law.

“The terms and conditions of the event were very clear from day one and perfectly legal. No one had to buy anything no one had to pledge anything in order to get the gas,” Yes on 6 spokesperson Carl Demaio said.

Yes on 6 changed its original press release from Sunday which included the words, ” drivers who pledge to support Prop 6 can register for a statewide drawing,” but have since updated their terms and conditions to say participants are not required to say they would vote yes. The only requirement is you agreed to sign up to receive emails from reform California.

“To get a free tank of gas or something is a game. It’s a gimmick. I think it avoids the whole issue which is we really need to take care of our infrastructure,” State Senate candidate District 12 Anna Caballero said.

There were no gas stations on the central coast involved in the event.
