Warriors Family connection in Santa Cruz
Tuesday, the Golden State Warriors G-League affiliate Santa Cruz Warriors had its Media Day.
Two players on the Santa Cruz team, Damien Lee and Jaleel Cousins, have ties to stars on the Golden State Warriors.
Cousins is the younger brother of one of the newest Warriors, Demarcus Cousins. Lee is the brother-in-law of 2-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry. In September he married Sydel Curry, Stephen’s sister.
“I was in Texas, he was in California and we couldn’t see each other,” Santa Cruz Warriors center Jaleel Cousins said. “Now we’re right down the street from each other. It’s perfect now.”
Cousins signed with the Warriors after spending last season playing professionally in Taiwan.
Damion Lee is on a two-way contract with the Golden State Warriors. This means he’ll split time in Oakland and Santa Cruz.
“It’s just coming in and competing,” Lee said. “My game can translate from down here to up there.”
Santa Cruz Warriors head coach Aaron Miles acknowledges the benefits of the two players familial relations.
“Anytime you have a pro as a brother, or a pro you can be with on a daily basis and they can give you knowledge they have, its always going to be beneficial for you,” Miles said.
The Santa Cruz Warriors season begins Saturday and follow that up with their home opener Wednesday November 7.
