Man in critical condition after being hit by car in Salinas

A man is in critical condition after being hit by a car in Salinas, Sunday night. The accident happened at around 7:30 p.m. on North Main Street near Menke Street.

Salinas Police said the man, in his early 50s, was walking east across North Main Street when he was hit by a Mazda 3 driving north. SPD said the man was not in a crosswalk.

The victim suffered serious leg and head injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The driver said he did not see the victim in the roadway. He stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

SPD said the driver is licensed and that drugs or alcohol did not play a factor in this case.
