Mt. Hermon house fire causes explosion

A house fire in Mt. Hermon caused an explosion large enough to be seen on the Santa Cruz north coast.

Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies saw the flash and directed fire personnel.

Nobody was in the house, so they evacuated nearby homes.

In the closest house, they saw a man sleeping. He did not wake up because of noise canceling headphones.

Heat from the fire was about to burst the windows of the house, so Deputies kicked down the door and woke the man and another person in the house.

Everybody got out safely and there was no more damage to the house.

The first house was completely destroyed, but there were no injuries.

They do not believe a crime was involved in the start of the fire.
