Rare jelly fish spotted in Pacific Ocean
A rare red jelly was spotted in deep sea waters in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California on Thursday (10/18).
The Poralia Rufescens jelly, a rarely seen predator, was spotted drifting across deep waters in Channel Islands by a vehicle remotely operated that sheds light and films its deep sea missions.
Poralia Rufescenses have a bell of around 3.5 inches in diameter with around 30 tentacles.
Scientists on the EVNautilus, an exploratory ship that deploys the remotely operated vehicles, say that the translucency and the red color of the jellyfish are forms of deep sea camouflage.
