Slippery roads to come as first days of rain set to hit the Central Coast
As the rain is set to pour down in the near future, all the oil and grime that has settled on roads across the Central Coast will prove to be a slippery mess for commuters.
Consider this your rainy day reminder to take things slow as you head on the road and notice those drops of rain falling on your windshield.
Speaking of windshield, you should also definitely get your windshield wiper blades checked to help you out with visibility. Not to mention tires and brakes should be in pretty good condition for the rain.
Should you see some hazardous conditions you should call up the California Highway Patrol to report what you saw and where.
Maintaining a safe distance from other drivers is also a must.
“You just have to be really responsible and careful,” says Susana Cruz with Caltrans. “Take that extra time you’re gonna get there but you want to get there in one piece right? You want everyone else to get there in one piece so just slow down and remain alert.”
The potential for the first rain in Santa Cruz County is particularly of note as Caltrans recently started work on Highway 17–a guardrail repair project scheduled to last a few days (weather permitting).
So far weather has permitted, with crews continuing work at this time. However, safety is of utmost importance as well as crews are asking commuters to slow down and move over for construction crews and CHP.
