UPDATE: Salinas teacher released from jail after arrest for “lewd or lascivious acts with a child”
UPDATE: The Monterey County Jail confirmed that Thane House, a second grade teacher at Boronda Meadows Elementary school, was brought in on Wednesday, September 19th and released Friday, September 21st with no charges filed.
Boronda Meadows Elementary school sent a note home with parents Friday the 21st saying that House was arrested for violating Penal Code sections F-288 (A) and F-288 (C)(1).
Police confirm those crimes are two felonies including lewd or lascivious acts with a child.
“The initial investigation had enough probable cause to arrest the suspect and to charge him with the two felonies in this particular case,” says Miguel Cabrera with the Salinas Police Department.
Police do not think any of the school’s students were involved.
House was released from jail without any charges, but Cabrera says that could change, “it’s an ongoing investigation that may lead to either additional charges with additional information that is gathered. Or the other way around. So it’s open, it’s an investigation that will take time.”
One parent who did not want to be identified says his daughter is in House’s class, “i never imagined, this is something very strange for us.”
He was shocked and concerned to hear about the allegations, “because this could have happened to anyone if he did it to someone, this could have been my kids. I have two daughters in this school. And with what just happened, now I won’t trust the teachers.”
A former neighbor of House’s who spoke with KION says he was always a great neighbor.
“I can’t think about anything but nice things to say about him,” Apolinario Vivit said, “As far as I knew he always offered to help been there if we needed him.”
In the note Boronda Meadows Elementary school says House was immediately placed on administrative leave and that the safety and well-being of the staff remain their top priority.
This a developing story, we will continue to update it as information becomes available.
