Man arrested after high-speed chase from Watsonville to Moss Landing

A man is in jail after leading officers on a high-speed chase that ended in a rural area near Moss Landing.

Watsonville Police said it started as a traffic stop on Lee Road in the Watsonville area Tuesday afternoon.

Officers with the Special Investigations Unit tried to pull over an SUV with equipment violations, but the driver initially pulled over and then took off.

The driver, identified as 24-year-old Arnulfo Anaya, then led officers on a chase to Highway 1 where he started driving on the wrong side of the road. That forced police to call off the chase.

Anaya then made a U-turn and started driving back towards officers.

Police started chasing Anaya again and ended in a rural field at Jensen and Bluff Road.

Anaya and a passenger jumped out and started running, but they were quickly caught.

Anaya was taken to the Santa Cruz County Jail for felony evading. The passenger was questioned and released.
