Fatal crash north of Watsonville Sunday morning
A 26-year-old man has died after a crash on Amesti Road north of Watsonville.
Between 11 p.m. on Saturday and 7:40 a.m. Sunday, the man was driving southeast on Amesti Road.
When he was southeast of Bencich Lane, the car veered to the right and off the road.
The car hit a utility pole and a tree.
The driver died of his injuries at the scene.
CHP officers responded to the scene and closed off Amesti Road in both directions for about 2 hours during the investigation.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
It is not known yet if drugs or alcohol were factors.
He was not wearing a seatbelt.
