Woman shot and killed on Acosta Plaza in Salinas

UPDATE: 9/6/2018 12:11 p.m. The Salinas Police Department is investigating three deadly shootings over Labor Day weekend.

The most recent shooting took place in east Salinas, around 7 a.m. Monday (9/3).

According to SPD, 29-year-old Scarlett Charmaine Bowman was shot at 912 Acosta Plaza.

When officers arrived they found Bowman suffering from at least one gunshot wound. She died at the scene.

The Acosta Plaza shooting was the third in less than 48 hours. Investigators don’t believe the shooting was gang related but are not disregarding it as a motive.

A 24-year-old man was shot and killed in the 100 block of West Street of Salinas on Sunday. A man in his 30’s was shot and killed on Polk Street around 12:30 a.m. Monday.

SPD told KION none of the three shootings are connected.

The Acosta Plaza murder marks the city’s 17th homicide of the year.
