Viral video shows exotic car speeding through Monterey tunnel

New videos appear to show a car flying through Monterey’s Lighthouse tunnel.

These videos from Daily Driven Exotics have the attention of the Monterey Police Department.

“It’s definitely not safe and those were the issues we are aware of. And we are aware of that video,” Lt. Michael Bruno of the Monterey Police Department, said.

MPD said they’ll be looking at working with the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office to see what violations were committed and if there will be any charges.

“You’d be looking at reckless driving, or exhibition of speed for driving excessive. Losing traction of your tries, those kinds of things. They’re misdemeanors, but can result in suspension of his license, which he probably does not want because he lives to drive around,” Bruno said.

KION showed the video to residents, who responded that excessive speeding was common during car week.

“You can hear the cars zooming around,” Tom Clearly, a Pebble Beach resident, said. “I was inside staying clear of those guys.”

“Highway One, they would slow down the traffic and then take off. I think it’s a problem,” Monterey resident, Kathy Dunning, said.”

Monterey was joined by Marina and Salinas Police near the tunnel Saturday night. They pulled over 42 drivers and cited 34. One driver was clocked in at 93 miles per hour.

It is very dangerous. We’ve had fatalities right outside the tunnel, as well as some major collisions,” Bruno said.

Daily Driven Exotics, the channel ran by Damon Fryer, posted their encounter with MPD on Facebook Tuesday.

Their videos show huge crowds, their comments are largely supportive, and most of what is shown appears to be legal and harmless. However this is the same channel from last year’s incident where a Sand City patrol car was filmed participating in a stunt.

KION reached out to Daily Driven Exotics for comment. We have not heard back.
