Pebble Beach wraps up Car Week

That’s a wrap for Car Week here on the Central Coast. While visitors start heading out of the area, the workers had to stay behind to clean up.

It’s safe to call the event a success. Officials tell KION that this year was even better than last year. It raised about $1.8 million for charity. Of course, quite a lot of work had to be done to get the courses back in order.

While the courses were mostly in good shape, after having a bunch of cars on hole 18 in front of the lodge, it had to be completely resurfaced. There still lies one more challenge, and that’s transporting all those cars out of Pebble Beach.

Stan Crawford is a transport driver for the event. He says, “This event is one of the most prestigious events year-round… it’s stressful. Uhm, being that we have to work together with the community and
we have to work together with other transport companies and amongst our group of peers as well.”

Crawford has been a transport driver for the event for some time. It’s not always as easy to just drive a car into a truck. Crawford says, “A lot of cars… Mercedes you can’t start. So we got to push a lot of them so we gotta get all the strength that we need and get them moved.”

He says he sees more and more people every year coming to the event. This year was no exception. His company alone has around 600 cars to move out by the end of today.

Even though the event is over, planning for next year is already underway. Some of the special events will include the centennial of Bentley and Zagato.
