Candidates Forum to be held in Marina leading up to elections
Marina residents weighed in on what some of their concerns are ahead of a candidates forum scheduled to take place at the Marina Public Library this weekend.
Much of the discussion was about parking, which during peak visiting hours for non-residents can impact those living in the city negatively.
Steven Lelles has called Marina home for the past 9 years and feels city plans have logistically put the parking situation in a tough spot for residents.
“The build those new places over in Fort Ord and it seems like the parking situation is crazy over there, too,” Lelles explains.
Other concerns include environmental–in which residents feel the Marina State Beach is not being kept clean enough and those responsible for its litter are not being punished enough.
Residents say they understand part of it is up to them to clean up beaches and they’re willing to do so.
Rob Erlich bikes around town and says he wants better and more bike-friendly roads in the city.
“Some of the roads are pretty good. Some of the roads are little bit rough and bumpy and they definitely need to take a look at that. I think it’s important that we can get out here and bike whether it’s for recreation or transportation,” Erlich explains. “We need to improve our roads and make sure we have adequate bike lanes all throughout the city for sure.”
Voters will get a chance to hear from candidates for Marina City Mayor as well as Monterey Peninsula College and Marina Coast Water District Board members.
That chance is on Saturday August 25 at 6 pm in the Marina Public Library Community Room.
