Monterey Car Week boosts Central Coast hotels
The Monterey Peninsula saw a boost worth over $50 million back in 2014. The big reason for that statistic was due to the amount of people staying in hotels across the area.
A hotel manager says those who do end up booking a room for Car Week this year are likely to make reservations for next year on their way out.
People from all over the globe are parked across the Monterey Peninsula for 2018s version of Car Week.
With all the car enthusiasts driving through the area, the question becomes “where are all these people going to stay?”
It’s a busy time of year for hotels across the Central Coast. Those looking to reserve a room now may either find it costly or simply unavailable.
“You have to think way in advance during this time of year, especially during Car Week. Also during the big Pebble Beach events as well,” says Jenny MacMurdo, President and CEO of the Carmel Chamber of Commerce. “You wanna look ahead and see what’s going on.”
General Manager Peter Radler over at the Cypress Inn in Carmel could not be reached for an in-person interview but says he’s seeing well above 90% of his rooms booked for Car Week.
Carrie Theis over at Hofsas House says the same thing.
“We fill up essentially for most of the week. Definitely Wednesday through Sunday is full and Monday and Tuesday is extremely busy,” Theis says.
Theis adds that once this year’s “Car Week” is over, people will start booking for next year the moment they check out.
Whether a spectator from Chicago or someone traveling for work.
“We have people who judge the cars and people who have a week of working because they sell and buy cars for clients,” says Theis, explaining the type of folks who stop by during Car Week. “We also have people who are here just to see the amazing cars so it’s quite a variety of people and they come from all over.”
