Driver pinned between big rig at Taylor Farms facility dies

A deadly accident at the Taylor Farms facility in Salinas.

Authorities told KION a 58-year-old man was struck by a big rig and pinned against a loading dock at a Taylor Farms building on Abbott Street.

The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Salinas Police said the victim parked his trailer too far from the loading dock. Employees at Taylor Farms began looking for the driver but could not find him.

“Another truck driver moved the truck so that the trailer could be loaded. When the truck was backed up to the dock, the 58 year-old truck driver was crushed between the trailer and the loading dock,” said Sgt. Robert Hampson.

Sgt. Hampson said it is unknown why the driver was behind the truck. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victim’s identity has not been released.

The Salinas Police Department and Cal/OSHA are investigating this case. Cal/OSHA told KION the inspection can take up to six months.
