Suspected wrong-way driver killed in crash on Highway 101
A woman was killed in a four-car accident on Highway 101, at about 1:15 a.m., Sunday.
California Highway Patrol says Catherine Henry, 56, from San Anselmo, was driving northbound in the southbound lanes, south of SR-156 in San Benito County. She reportedly collided head-on with a Chevrolet Cruze. A third vehicle, a Mercedes Benz, attempted to avoid the crash, and struck the front of Henry’s vehicle. A fourth car, a GMC Sierra, also tried to avoid the crash and struck the Cruze.
Henry was pronounced dead at the scene, after officials attempted medical treatment.
Both people in the Cruze suffered broken bones. The driver was taken to a hospital in San Jose. The passenger, a Watsonville resident, was transported to Salinas.
One of the two people in the Sierra suffered minor injuries.
Southbound 101 was closed at the location of the accident for about three hours.
CHP says it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
