Deer stuck in metal grate in Pacific Grove
Folks in Pacific Grove are scratching their heads trying to figure out how a deer managed to get a metal grate stuck around its mid section.
The Pacific Grove Police Department posted photos of the deer on Facebook and said, “We aren’t sure how exactly this circumstance transpired, but we feel for the deer and we are sure our community will be concerned as well.”
The SPCA for Monterey County was notified about the situation. However, PGPD said they’d rather not intervene and hope the deer can free itself.
“It might seem like an easy solution to tranquilize the deer and remove the grate. Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as that. Deer are prey animals, so their primary instinct is to run and a dart in their rump would definitely be cause for them to take off,” said PGPD.
PGPD said the community can help by keeping an eye out for the deer. If you see it call the SPCA’s wildlife unit at 831-373-2631.
