Salinas man killed in crash on San Juan Grade Road
UPDATE: 8/8/2018 9:58 a.m. A 22 year old Salinas man has died following a vehicle collision on San Juan Grade Road close to Hebert Road.
The California Highway Patrol said 22-year-old Arturo Vega Jr. was traveling northbound in an Infiniti G37 on San Juan Grade Road in heavy fog when he collided into the right rear of a pick-up truck.
The Infiniti spun onto the right shoulder of San Juan Grade Road. It was there CHP located Vega Jr.’s body and a 17-year-old boy who suffered minor lacerations to his face.
CHP determined Vega Jr. was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
The driver of the pick-up was unharmed and able to drive away from the scene.
CHP said they are unsure if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision as the incident is still under investigation.
Initial reports of this being a hit and run incident were false.

California Highway Patrol has confirmed that one person has died after a car accident off of San Juan Grade and Hebert Road. It happened around 4:27 a.m.
Officers say the victim was a male driver in his 20s who was not wearing his seatbelt. It was not immediately clear what happened.
