Car Week in full swing; enthusiasts pour into Concours on the Avenue in Carmel
Car lovers poured into Carmel Tuesday for Concours on the Avenue.
It was one of many events happening during Car Week that has attracted more than 85,000 visitors to Monterey County in past years.
Concours on the Avenue has been going on for 11 years and it continued to be a popular attraction
About 190 cars, from luxury to sports, to miniature ones lined up on Ocean Avenue.
“It’s our favorite little baby. When we crashed it here two years ago, we had to fly it home to get it ready for another race,” said car owner Ron Goodman.
Home for his 1954 Porsche is 7,400 miles away in Sydney, Australia. Goodman shipped it six weeks ago to make it to the race at Laguna Seca.
“Every time we come over here, we always seem to come second. This year, we want to try and win,” Goodman said.
All those car owners couldn’t have done it alone. Those who are domestic rely on professionals like Jose Magana to bring their cars to the Central Coast.
“My previous load, it came out of Chicago, Illinois. And it went to one of the classic car auctions,” Magana said.
With his 18-wheeler and millions of dollars in tow, Magana was already on his third trip. This time, making deliveries for Car Week from Southern.
“I got a Porsche in the back, a Volkswagon in the middle, and I got three other Porches,” Magana said.
Whether by chance or planned a year in advance, spectators from near and far soaked it up.
“I think (the event) makes this city alive. You know, we live here, we feel so much energy,” said Carmel resident.
“We really love it,” said Maya Gat, vacationing with her family from Tel Aviv.
