Man struck and killed on Highway 101 after crashing car in Gilroy

UPDATE: 8/3/2018 12:04 p.m. A San Jose man was struck and killed after crashing his car on Highway 101 in Gilroy.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 53-year-old Todd Elmore of San Jose was driving northbound on Highway 101 in a black Ford Crown Victoria when he lost control and collided with the west bridge rail at the Leavesley Road over-crossing.

The accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. Thursday night.

CHP said Elmore got out of his wrecked car and walked into the next lane. A driver in a 2016 Toyota was approaching and saw the accident so she swerved into the next lane to avoid a collision. As the driver of the Toyota swerved she hit Elmore.
