Disturbance call leads deputies to chop shop in San Benito County
While responding to a disturbance call in San Benito County, deputies noticed what appeared to be a “chop shop” on the property.
The “chop shop” was located on Freitas Road, just outside the city limits of San Juan Bautista, Thursday.
According to the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office, two of the motorcycles were stolen out of San Jose and Santa Clara.
“There were many others in some state of disassembly. We reached out to CHP – Hollister-Gilroy for some help. They, in turn, notified their investigators who agreed to help out,” said the sheriff’s office.
The Santa Cruz Auto-Theft Reduction (SCARE) task-force assisted deputies.
Rifles, ammunition and surveillance cameras were also found.
Deputies arrested two suspects, one of which was a felon.
Later that night, deputies located two more suspects on Los Viboras Road in rural San Benito County. A total of four arrests were made and more stolen cars were found.
The case is still under investigation.
“The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office relies heavily on our relationships with our surrounding agencies and partners. The property owners were not involved in the criminal activity and were more than cooperative with us and thankful for our investigation,”
