Salinas gang member arrested for attempted murder

A Salinas gang member wanted for attempted murder was arrested early Wednesday.

The Salinas Police Department’s SWAT Team served a search warrant on Sycamore Road. Officers seized four guns and arrested 20-year-old Jose Carrillo, a known gang member.

SPD said the man was wanted for a shooting in the 300 block of Cross Avenue on July 4, 2018.

Two male juveniles (15 and 12) were standing in the driveway when a black SUV stopped on the street in front of the residence. A male occupant exited, approached the two victims and brandished a handgun. He asked them where they were from and began firing at the victims as they ran for cover. Fortunately, no one was struck.

Officers arrested the suspect’s 45-year-old father, Jose Carrillo Sr. also a known gang member, for firearms possession and possession of methamphetamine.

Monterey County Sheriff’s SWAT assisted with a second location on Connelly Court.
