Marijuana farm catches fire in Greenfield

UPDATE 7/23/18 9:45 p.m.: The Greenfield Fire Department is investigating one of the biggest fires in the city’s history.

According to Interim Fire Chief Jeff Terpstra, four greenhouse buildings were destroyed at the cannabis cultivation company LoudPack Farms, and a fifth was badly damaged.

The fire department had also previously recommended the business install sprinklers as they recommend to all businesses, but it was not required. The farm did not have sprinklers.

The building did have alarms installed.

The call came in at 4:20 p.m. and the first engine arrived a few minutes later.

Most employees in the building had already left for the day, and there were no injuries.

The cause is under investigation, the fire department does not believe it is arson at this point.

The fire department received help from Soledad Fire, Gonzales, South Monterey County, Correctional Training Facility, Cal Fire, Monterey Regiona, the California Highway Patrol, Greenfield Police and AMR Ambulance. Several agencies were assisting them.
