Salinas Police arrest two teens for 2017 homicide

UPDATE: 7/20/2018 10:20 a.m. Salinas police officers arrested two teenagers for a homicide that took place in 2017.

19-year-old Jonathan Salazar and a 15-year-old boy are accused of shooting 20-year-old Jaime Martinez. The shooting took place in the 1500 block of Del Monte Avenue. When officers arrived they found Martinez suffering from a gunshot wound.

Martinez was taken to a local hospital and eventually died. Another passenger in the car was struck by a bullet and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

“This crime is being investigated as gang related,” said Sgt. Danny Warner.

Salinas police are investigating the city’s 25th homicide of 2017.

Officers say they responded to a call on the 1500 block of Del Monte Avenue around 6:45 p.m. Thursday night of a victim of a shooting.

When they arrived on scene, they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were transported to local hospitals.

One of the victims, 20-year-old Jaime Martinez, Jr., later died at the hospital.

The other victim’s condition is currently unknown.

Police are investigating the shooting as gang related.
