Great white shark eats dead whale off Southern California
Passengers and crew aboard a private fishing charter were shocked to watch a massive great white shark feeding on a gray whale carcass off the Southern California coast.
Video by the crew on an AllWater Charter boat documented the shark estimated to be up to 17 feet long chomping on the whale carcass Thursday.
The carcass was towed out to sea Wednesday after it was reported near the Dana Point Harbor jetty a day before. But it drifted back to less than a mile from the San Clemente pier.
A captain at AllWater told City News Service that Orange County sheriff’s harbor patrol deputies and lifeguards soon showed up to tow the whale back out to sea, and the shark did not appear to be in an aggressive posture.
