Garbage waves on a Dominican Republic beach

Going to the Caribbean visitors expect to see beautiful waves of clear blue water.

But at Playa Montesinos in the Dominican Republic, beachgoers are greeted by waves of trash.

Shocking video seen here was shared by the NGO Parley for the Oceans and has already been shared thousands of time on social media.

According to people associated with the organization it happens every time heavy rains take place.

Parley for the Oceans is an NGO that addresses pollution in the world’s oceans, cleaning up plastic around the world and promoting change.

For this project they are working with over 500 public workers including the island’s Armed Forces and government officials, to clean up the beach.

The caption says they have collected 30 tons of plastic in three days and will continue its clean-up mission for the rest of the week.

Most of the plastic collected will go to a landfill with some of it being reused to create recycled products.
