Passenger dies in Gilroy car accident
The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal car accident in Gilroy.
According to CHP, the solo car crash occurred on Bolsa Road north of Bloomfield Avenue just before 3 p.m. Wednesday.
23-year-old Pedro Gutierrez Flores was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt when he ran off the roadway, hit a concrete pillar at 615 Bolsa Road. Flores sustained major injuries. The right front passenger, Guillermo Cruz died at the scene. The rear passenger, Angel Hernandez sustained major injuries along with the second rear passenger, Jose Alberto Montoya Valdez.
The three surviving men were taken to San Jose Regional Medical Center via Cal Star.
Bolsa Road was closed for about 2 hours.
The cause of the crash is under investigation but CHP said alcohol may be a contributing factor.
