Teen gang member tosses gun, Watsonville K-9 finds it

Another gun is off the streets in Watsonville following a short pursuit through the city with a 17-year-old gang member.

According to the Watsonville Police Department, a sergeant with the Special Investigation Unit was on bike patrol in the area of W. Front and Walker Street on Tuesday when he noticed a group of people trespassing through the Pajaro River Levee.

As the sergeant rode towards the group, WPD said the teen ran through nearby agriculture fields. The sergeant chased after him and noticed the boy kept grabbing his waistband.

“At one point during the chase, the teen tossed a gun,” WPD said.

The department posted a video to Facebook showing K-9 Ranger found the gun.
