Paroled murderer charged with kidnapping and beating Salinas woman

A parolee convicted of murder is now charged with beating a Salinas woman.

Officials say 63-year-old O’Neal Underwood allegedly beat and kidnapped the woman on June 29th, 2018.

On January 1, 1987, Underwood committed first degree murder and robbery in Contra Costa County. Underwood was convicted of both offenses and on March 4, 1988, Underwood received a sentence of 25 to life in state prison. Underwood was paroled on March 23, 2017 to Monterey County.

On July 6th, 2018, the District Attorney filed felony domestic violence charges against Underwood, including two felony strike priors. Underwood was arraigned on July 10, 2018 and is in custody with bail set at $1,020,000.

On July 14, 2018, the District Attorney charged an additional count of kidnapping in the domestic violence case occurring on June 29, 2018.
