Surveillance camera captures teen firing gun in Watsonville

A 14-year-old boy was taken into custody after he was caught on surveillance video firing a gun into the air in Watsonville.

According to the Watsonville Police Department, officers heard gun shots near Rodriguez Street and Rodriguez Way on the 4th of July, but didn’t find a crime scene.

Within 24 hours, a community member reached out to police and gave them details about the shooting.

After reviewing surveillance video, investigators were able to identify the 14-year-old and a friend who was with him that night.

A search warrant was served at two homes and the 14-year-old boy was arrested on July 13.

“We take these cases seriously and we really appreciate the community working with us,” said WPD.
