Candidate filing process for 2018 general election begins
The next few months are looking to be busy for elections offices across the state as the November general election gets closer.
Monterey County in particular could see a large number of changes after the November 6th General Election.
“Voters are going to be voting on local contests which really affect them the most,” says Greta Arevalo with the Monterey County Elections Office.
12 cities are listed on the packet and almost all of them have the mayoral slot up for election in November.
County elections officials say residents who wish to run for city positions should be registered to vote for those seats.
Special and School District positions are also slated to be on the docket this year. The filing period begins as of July 16th.
“If a person is interested in running for office, Monterey County Elections suggests candidates make appointments ahead of time that way they can provide a faster and better service,” says Arevalo.
August 10th is the last day to file as a candidate.
If the incumbent should not complete his/her nomination forms the deadline for that particular position would be extended by 5 days (Meaning the deadline would thus be the 15th of August).
Those who wish to run for a city office should talk to their respective city clerk.
Those running for Special or School District positions should be in touch with the Monterey County Elections Office.
