Man stabbed to death on Fairview Avenue in Salinas

A man was stabbed to death at his home in Salinas Wednesday.

According to the Salinas Police Department, the stabbing happened at a home in the 1100 block of Fairview Avenue around 11:20 a.m. SPD said the home was being rented by an Ag company and several farm workers lived there.

“When the officer arrived, he was met by a hysterical female telling him the victim was stabbed, and the suspect who stabbed him, were both inside the house,” said Sgt. Christopher Lane.

48-year-old Ramon Espinoza Ochoa was found suffering from a single stab wound to the back. He was taken to Natividad hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect, 18-year-old farm worker, Brayan Uriel Parra was arrested inside the home.

Investigators determined the 45-year-old woman and Ochoa are caretakers for the property. They went to clean the home, which police said they do every week. While the woman was cleaning, she heard a commotion and saw Ochoa stumbling toward her. Ochoa fell to the floor and she saw he had been stabbed.

SPD said the woman ran outside to get help but went back inside to help Ochoa.

“At that time, Parra attacked her and started beating her with a cellphone about the face. Another resident pulled Parra off of the female and she fled out of the house to seek help,” said Sgt. Lane.

Parra was arrested and taken to Monterey County Jail and booked for one count of murder and one count of assault with a deadly weapon.

This marks the city’s 11th homicide of the year.
