College student wins $1 Million prize in Morgan Hill

A 19-year-old college student can call himself a millionaire!

Giovanni Escamilla won the $1 million top prize playing a California Black Premium scratcher.

Escamilla and his father said they stopped to grab a drink at a gas station in Morgan Hill and decided to buy some scratchers.

Escamilla said he doesn’t play the Lottery that much and wasn’t sure if he won so he scanned his ticket using the new Check-A-Ticket feature on the California Lottery mobile app.

That’s when he realized he won $1,000,000.

Escamilla told the California Lottery he doesn’t know what he plans on doing with his winnings. He hopes to use his winnings to make even more cash.

The lucky ticket was purchased at the Cochrane Food Mart & Carwash located at 851 Cochrane Road.

The business will receive a $5,000 retailer bonus from the California Lottery just for selling the winning ticket.
