Butane Honey Oil lab causes Soquel home explosion
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office says a man smoking marijuana inside a Butane Honey Oil lab is to blame for an explosion in Soquel.
The explosion occurred at a home on Main Street around 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Deputies learned a man was manufacturing Butane Honey Oil in his rented portion of the home when he started smoking marijuana.
“This ignited a large explosion in the home and injured three people, including the man responsible for the incident,” the sheriff’s office said.
All three people were taken to the hospital for various injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team is investigating the case and requested charges for the man renting the home.
A name is not being released because an arrest has not been made.
“This process of manufacturing Butane Honey Oil is very dangerous and illegal. This product (BHO) is being sold legally in dispensaries. The Sheriff’s Office encourages people to use the legal market for this product and avoid attempting the dangerous and illegal manufacturing process,” the sheriff’s office said.
