Surveillance video helps Watsonville police track down stolen moped

The Watsonville Police Department helped return a stolen moped to its rightful owner.

Thanks to surveillance video from a downtown parking garage on W. Beach Street, Watsonville Police Department officers were able to track down a suspect, 31-year-old Michael Harrington, who they said snatched the moped from a parked truck nearly two weeks ago.

Harrington could face theft charges. His case has been sent to the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office.

“Having a downtown officer has been extremely helpful. This is the second time in less than a month that we recovered items stolen from cars in the parking garage,” said a spokesperson for the Police Department. “Let’s just say that surveillance footage has been making it very easy for us to track down the suspects.”
